IT'S TIME WE MAKE IT POSSIBLE
FOR MORE YOUNG PEOPLE
TO BE ABLE TO SAY THE SAME!
WE HAVE GOT TO
REFORM OUR BROKEN STUDENT LOAN DEBT SYSTEM.
AND WE HAVE GOT TO
MAKE COLLEGE AFFORDABLE FOR ALL.

For me, some of that work with meaning includes TOMS,
the Obama White House, teaching abroad,
art and entrepreneurship in the Gift Economy,
two proud terms of national service with AmeriCorps,
and beginning in 2018, 27 months of Peace Corps service in rural Zambia.

Because YES.
We absolutely can make the same meaningful opportunities
a debt-free possibility for anyone.

Receiving a generous scholarship allowed me to graduate university debt-free,
and thus, with the freedom to pursue this path in search of work with meaning
- a path which traditionally doesn't pay all that well.
...So, if I haven't made much money, thankfully that never had to be the point.
(Learn in your 20s and earn in your 30s, anyway right?)
The up-side? Now finding myself a frugal minimalist,
and moving only with what could easily be brought on a plane, I've lived here:

That's about 19 cities in 15 US states over 6 years,
and multiple countries abroad for 4+ years.
For all this travel, I consider myself extremely lucky.
(not shown in map above: US tour route of BioTour on the 2008 Campaign Trail,
living aboard a 36' 1989 Bluebird school bus we converted
to run on recycled waste vegetable oil and solar power,
giving presentations on renewable energy across the country,
encouraging folks to vote; and hopefully, with clean energy in mind.)

I'M GRATEFUL.
Particularly for the amazing people I've met, befriended,
and worked with all around the world.

It's always people.
Thank you.

"AND WHAT NOW?"
My girlfriend, Lianne, and I are working on a podcast...
We're two Millennial Americans
grateful to have escaped the college student loan debt trap.
We met in South Korea while teaching English and are now traveling through Asia.
Traveling through Asia with intention.
As we travel, we're recording conversations with interesting people - locals, expats, and fellow travelers - talking about issues of the day in the community and highlighting folks and organizations doing important work around the world
- those in pursuit of work with meaning.

"WHAT ELSE?"
TONIGHT'S WATERCOLOR!
In 2010, I completed a successful new year's RESOLUTION
to CREATE (and GIFT away FREE) WATERCOLORS every day.
I gave away any original requested, free.
(yes, free shipping too.)

Before diving in - and probably not unlike yourself -
I too, hadn't painted since 9th grade art class either.
I learned A LOT about creativity, giving unconditionally, and showing up every day.

CREATE and GIFT
So in 2013, I started CREATE and GIFT
to encourage fellow "non-artists"
to make more time for our creative and generous selves.

A NOTE:
This website has been a work-in-progress since 1999 and is just as much a personal archive for my own history, reference, and memory (i.e., the baby photos, journal from 1992, and kind notes) as it is public for any professional development, career resources, or guidance. So... enjoy the odd mix of stuff you may find here. Cheers!

SOME OF THE PERSONAL THINGS
I like live music, chess, table tennis, reading, dry wit and puns, checking off to-do list items, smelling orange peels (try it), chipping away at my "Swiss Cheese foundation" in math on Khan Academy, heights - and in that vain, rooftops, balconies, climbing trees, billboards, etc... I value efficiency and others who seek it,
and I would be happy to teach you how to solve the Rubik's Cube.

I would also be happy to skydive and ride my motorcycle every day.
I love natural light, eating bread, napping in parks, and drinking clean water. And dogs.

If you like important books, here's a gift (three, actually):
(The first two are free (but would most definitely still be worth paying for),
the third is a strong recommendation.)
